Dynasty Fantasy Football Cut Candidates: Time To Move On From Jack Bech?

One of my biggest weaknesses as a dynasty fantasy football manager is my inability to simply move on. While I've certainly gotten better at moving on from my priors, that is, to accept new information and have a different opinion about a player, I haven't been as good at physically moving on from players that I've drafted.

I'm too loyal. It feels personal.

But sometimes, you have to move on. If a guy just simply doesn't have it, there's no use in holding on anymore. Could he still prove you wrong? Of course, but you have to take a stand at some point.

Here are three second-year wideouts that I am willing to cut in dynasty fantasy football leagues.

Players to Cut in Dynasty Fantasy Football

Kyle Williams | WR | Patriots

A pretty safe bet to make in dynasty formats is any wideout drafted either on Day 1 or Day 2 of the NFL Draft. That includes any player drafted inside of the first three rounds. Anyone carrying Day 2 draft capital or better generally holds value pretty well regardless of how their rookie season turned out.

Well, I'm here to tell you that might not be the case.

The New England Patriots spent a third-round pick on Kyle Williams and, despite appearing in all 17 games (which is what you want from an early-round rookie), he posted the following:

21 targets
10 receptions
209 receiving yards
3 TDs

That’s … hard to do if you're active for an entire season.

The Patriots lost Stefon Diggs, who tallied 100+ targets and 1,000+ receiving yards in his lone season with them, but the team subsequently added both A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs to be their top two options for Drake Maye.

Our projections are not kind to Williams as he gets set for his second season.

For as bad as last season was, we're anticipating even lower numbers across the board. Obviously, things can and do change across both the NFL and fantasy landscapes. Unless you have massively deep benches and/or extra taxi squad spots, I'm fine letting Williams go.

Matthew Berry's 100 Facts

Tez Johnson | WR | Buccaneers

Candidly, draft capital alone would be a good enough reason to not have much faith in Tez Johnson moving forward. The Buccaneers spent a seventh-round pick on him and his rookie season wasn't all that impressive.

To be fair, he did get hot for six weeks in the middle of the season. From Weeks 6-12 (which included a bye week), he averaged:

11.8 PPR
36 receiving yards
5 total TDs

As you could likely have guessed, it was the TDs that really buoyed his production during that stretch, not a high-level of target volume. Looking to this next season, even incoming rookie Ted Hurst (Round 3) is projected to be more involved in 2026.

As mentioned, this can certainly change and Chris Godwin is getting up there in age and is returning from a serious injury. Even so, this offense is going to run through Emeka Egbuka for the foreseeable future. Do the smart thing and cut bait on Johnson before he continues taking up a valuable roster spot on your team.

Jack Bech | WR | Raiders

Of the three wideouts mentioned in this piece, I'm the most hesitant on this one. The Raiders snagged Jack Bech in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft and, much like Williams and Johnson, he was not able to do much with his opportunity.

To be fair, it was tough sledding for all Raiders pass catchers in 2025 as they averaged a league-worst 14.2 points per game. Also, no player broke 100 targets or 700 receiving yards. It's tough to make an impact when the overall offense struggles to that degree.

That's part of what makes me pause on Bech.

Heading into the 2026 season, the race for the No. 1 wideout is pretty wide open. However, it's been reported that Bech has had a tough time separating himself from his teammates. As it currently sits in our fantasy football projections, both Tre Tucker and Jalen Nailor figure to be significantly more involved this season.

Whether it's Kirk Cousins or Fernando Mendoza under center, Bech has a real opportunity to build on a disappointing rookie campaign. However, the troubling reports out of training camp are enough for me to move Bech into the "cut" category if there are more viable options out there in your dynasty fantasy football leagues.
